Legal Counsel (12 months FTC, part-time 3 days a week)

Purpose of the role

We are looking to recruit a construction lawyer to form part of our UK legal team which supports our market leading UK real estate projects.


Responsibilities

This will be a varied role within a busy in-house legal team including:

• Drafting, negotiating and reviewing legal construction documents pertaining to developments, including building/development contracts, trade contracts, consultant appointments, development agreements, collateral warranties/third party rights, bonds, guarantees and other security instruments
• To understand and implement HB Reavis’ form of procurement, providing associated legal and strategic advice
• To understand and assist in implementing construction tendering processes
• Liaise with relevant internal departments (procurement, design, development, construction, leasing, financing, divestment etc.) to ensure that where legal risks have been identified, appropriate courses of action have been taken
• Providing legal protection and risk management advice to management, especially on contract management and dispute resolution
• Provide and interpret legal information, conduct training where requested and disseminate appropriate legal requirements to staff
• Working closely with the finance, property and leasing teams and other relevant internal business divisions of the Company to manage legal matters and help facilitate HB Reavis’ development projects
• To undertake any other relevant legal duties or responsibilities either directly or liaising with and managing external lawyers
• Assist the UK Legal Counsel in advising management on legal implications of internal policies and procedures, with a particular emphasis on construction procurement
• Assist in reviewing and drafting contracts, agreements and internal policies and ensure that they are in compliance with statutory or legal requirements
• Assist in the preparation and ongoing management of precedent documentation


Requirements

Experience

  • Between 2 and 5 years post-qualification professional legal experience with a focus on non-contentious construction matters
  • Familiarity with the forms of construction contract which are widely used in the UK (such as JCT contracts) as well as bespoke contracts
  • Experience of different procurement models (such as construction management) is preferred but not essential

Education

  • Law Degree or Equivalent
  • Qualified as a Solicitor
