HB Reavis’ Váci Corner Offices holds the title of “greenest” office building in Hungary
Budapest, July 23, 2015 – The first project of HB Reavis Hungary, Váci Corner Offices, completed in 2014, has been awarded an “Excellent” BREEAM rating, making it the only office building in Hungary to hold this highest sustainability certification following its construction.
BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) is one of the world’s most widely used environmental assessment methods and rating systems for buildings. Projects are assessed according to 9+1 categories and required to meet 4 to 9 criteria in each category. UK-based BRE Group uses a wide range of measures to assess projects, including aspects related to energy, water and waste management processes, the quality of materials used for the construction of the building, as well as the management’s approach to sustainability.
Váci Corner Offices was awarded an “Excellent” BREEAM certification with a score of 73.4%, making it the greenest BREEAM certified building in Hungary, as it is the only project in the country to earn this highest certification following its completion.
The high quality of materials used for the construction of this nine-storey building, as well as the advanced technology and eco-friendly solutions applied, have largely contributed to Váci Corner Offices’ achieving an “Excellent” BREEAM rating. The design of the building ensures zero carbon emission, rainwater harvesting, recycling, and access to electric car charging stations while ensuring zero pollution to city air from its ventilation systems.
Tenants of Váci Corner Offices enjoy the convenience of nine elevators with advanced drives, LED lighting and brake energy regeneration technology, resulting in a nearly 50 percent reduction of annual energy usage compared to traditional elevators. In terms of its location, the building performed highly in the assessment due to its positioning in the heart of the Váci Office Corridor, adjacent to the Budapest’s Forgách street underground station, as well as being easily accessible by various other means of transport. Employees commuting on bike can avail of the bicycle storage racks, in addition to showering and locker facilities at car park level.
“The fact that Váci Corner Offices is to date the only development in Hungary to earn such a prestigious international rating is a testament to the commitment of our company to delivering sustainable solutions. In both designing and constructing this building, HB Reavis put great emphasis on sustainability on a number of levels. We wanted to create an office building that offers favorable conditions for tenants whilst minimizing harmful effects on the environment. We believe that the future lies in the development of sustainable solutions and the adoption of eco-friendly technology that can also improve working conditions” – said Zoltán Radnóty, CEO of HB Reavis Hungary.
