Our workspace in Bratislava took its place among 10 offices in Europe with WELL Certification at the Platinum level
When we moved into our new workspace in Bratislava in 2018 that we had been carefully designing for months, we applied for WELL Platinum. It’s the highest level of WELL Certification by the IWBI, which monitors and certifies the impact of built spaces on the health and wellbeing of the people who will enjoy the spaces in the future. And you know what? We just got it!
First things first
One of the first tasks that has to be knocked off the list after the construction of any of our projects starts is the WELL application. To make sure the spaces will best serve the people working in them in the future, we implement as many features as possible from each of the WELL areas: water, air, nourishment, light, fitness, comfort and mind.
If you’ve been following our News & Stories section for a while, then you surely haven’t missed our business “mantra” – we strongly believe that any investments in people’s wellbeing pay off and can significantly boost company revenue. Healthy spaces where teams feel happy help them thrive. We think that everyone should have the right to work in such an environment, our own team of more than 300 people included. And that’s exactly why we started thinking about redesigning and relocating our own office.
A 5,000 square metre office crafted to wellbeing perfection
As with every client, our office redesign started with tons of employee workshops and surveys. To make sure our design is always human focused, we can’t leave out the needs, ideas and comments the people working in the office have, right?
The pre- and post-occupational surveys also suggested improving the overall productivity in the new office by 10%. Symbiosy, our smart office technology, was there to help with this one.
To get the best ratings in the assessment process, we implemented almost a hundred features in our Bratislava workspace. We made sure that all the building materials were low VOC. We put over 200 sensors around the office to constantly monitor the air quality. Cleaning became a little bit like rocket science – we must stick to very strict protocols to follow the WELL requirements. Tap water was constantly tested and we made sure that everyone has access to drinking water within 30 metres of their desk, because distance is often the factor determining if an employee drinks regularly or not.
No more quick sandwich crushing during lunch breaks! WELL supports people mindfully eating, so we built a designated dining area and provided everyone with a fully equipped kitchen. Plus, everyone can get their vitamin intake for the day, as there are free seasonal fruits and vegetables in baskets for the taking.
Light is also extremely important. We made sure every workstation has access to direct daylight and thus great lightning conditions – because no one wants to mess with their inner clock, right? Biophilic design using natural colors, materials and tons of plants around the office as well as a central staircase promoting fitness and pieces of art on the walls are just the cherries on top in this office where every single square metre was designed to make people feel well.
Hundreds of days of waiting for WELL Platinum
The assessment process and all the on-site measurements took months. You can only imagine our excitement when we finally held our certificate proving our Bratislava office had just entered the very exclusive club of the healthiest offices in the world.
The writing on the wall is clear – no matter how challenging the times are, we always stick with our goals and never compromise on the quality of the office spaces that serve thousands of people across Europe every day.
