DSTRCT.Berlin hosts its first welcome festival
The delicate guitar sounds of SISSOS and Scott & Lila recently filled the surrounds of DSTRCT.Berlin’s Landsberger Allee area – drawing crowds of resident tenants on lunches as well as passers-by.
Their setlists, including songs from Amy Winehouse to Dolly Parton, were complemented by food trucks offering a mouthwatering menu of Mexican specialties, burgers and bowls, and frozen yoghurt. Over 1,000 meals were ordered, and washed down with some of the city’s best coffee, served next to DSTRCT.Berlin’s atmospheric halls.
A creative destination
The halls’ brick walls are in the final phase of their restoration. In agreement with the Monument Conservation Authority, we’re pleased to say they’ll continue to showcase some stunning graffiti – art that’s become part of site’s history over its recent period of vacancy.
The welcome festival made use of this too: people were invited to experiment with canvases and spray cans under the expert guidance of urban artist, Christian Hermann. The resulting eleven large-format pictures, created by people throughout the buildings, will be on show as part of exhibition at DSTRCT.Berlin.
A wonderful example of a collaborative, creative and successful neighbourhood.
